Osteoporosis affects people of every ethnic background, age and gender and many still don’t know that they may be at risk. The National Osteoporosis Foundation listed the following major risk factors:

• Personal/family history of osteoporosis or low-trauma fracture as an adult
• Low bone mass
• Female gender
• Thin body type and/or small frame
• Advanced age
• Estrogen deficiency
• Amenorrhea
• Low instance of calcium
• Inactive lifestyle
• Cigarette smoker
• Excessive alcohol intake
